Beacon of Light 01

CA$100.00

Spring has always been emotionally charged for me, especially after having a miscarriage five years ago in March of 2020, the same day that the world around me was put on pause for lockdown. It felt like a sick joke at the time, but in hindsight, I like to be extra dramatic and say that the world was grieving alongside me.

As you can imagine, this took an emotional toll on me, and affected my creativity. The following year after my miscarriage, I started to notice the hardy yellow buttercups that was growing all over my garden, which some people would’ve considered weeds. Instead, it felt to me like these little bursts of sunshine were poking their heads up to say hello. I plucked 31 of them to press on my birthday that spring.

Fast forward to March of 2025 this year, I was ready to revisit the pressed flowers, and wanted to recognize and honour how much I have grown emotionally since. I can now hold space for grief, love, and especially hope. Historically, buttercups symbolize optimism and humility, but to me, these flowers have provided me so much light and joy during the darkest of times in my life.

These one-of-a-kind pieces are painted in silhouette, outlining each buttercup in its pressed form, to capture their simplicity, yet intricate and unique shapes.

These individual pieces hold a lot of meaning for me, making each one extremely special. I hope that by sharing these with you, I’m able to extend that humility, kindness, and a beacon of light in some way.

Thank you for your support.
