Finding Relief in the Garden

creative practice

When the world shut down in the spring and summer of 2020, I was grateful to have had a garden to dirty my hands with for the first time. I was grieving a personal matter (alongside the world’s heaviness), and I could not bring myself to draw. Instead, I turned to the garden. With the time as slow as molasses, I watched the seeds I planted grow to become flowers, vegetables and fruits. Every day was savoured paying attention to nature doing its thing. I was in awe, and I felt my creative self come back to life for what seemed like a long time. So I started to draw the nature that was growing around me. Here are some of those from my sketchbook.
